Around and About
Over the years, our visitors from all over the UK - and beyond - have invariably been amazed at the tranquil, rolling countryside of East Leicestershire and Rutland. This is home to a myriad of unspoiled villages and historic market towns including Uppingham, Melton Mowbray, Oakham, Market Harborough and Stamford with their lovely, mellow stone buildings and cosy pubs. All are within 30 minutes of our doorstep. Local attractions include the Stately Homes of Burghley House, Belvoir Castle, Belton House and Rockingham Castle whilst beautiful Launde Abbey in its magnificent rural setting is only four miles away. For more active recreation, Rutland Water is only 20 minutes away and offers sailing, kayaking, cycling and a bird sanctuary that includes nesting osprey and an annual Birdfair, usually held in August. Many other walking and cycling paths criss-cross the area, including the Midshires Way.
Halsted House, a beautiful and ever-popular venue for weddings and receptions, is just a couple of minutes’ drive away.
Most of our guests come by car but we are well served by Midland Mainline trains via Market Harborough (less than an hour from London) or Leicester stations - taxis are available at both.
